GET INVOLVED IN ASV!!! The deadline to submit a nomination for ASV Council is Monday, November 16, 2020.

The positions to be filled this year are:

President-Elect- serves one year as president-elect, one year as president, and one year as past president (total 3 yr. term) (July 21 through July 2024).

Councilor for Animal Virology- 3 yr. term (July 21 through July 2024)

Councilor for Invertebrate Virology- 3 yr. term (July 21 through July 2024)

Councilor for Virology Trainees- 2 yr. term (July 21 through July 2023). The ASV Council voted to have two Councilors for Virology Trainees whose terms will be staggered.

Councilors will attend the meetings of Council held each year during the ASV annual meeting and in September. For all Councilors and the President-Elect, travel expenses are reimbursed for attendance at the fall Council meeting. For the Councilors for Virology Trainees, travel expenses for attendance at the ASV annual meeting are also reimbursed.

Requirements for Nomination

For President Elect, Councilor for Animal Virology, and Councilor for Invertebrate Virology: The nominated individual MUST be a current Full member of ASV (dues paid for 2020 and for 2021 at time of election in February), and have a record of service to the society. Nominees for the Councilor positions must have a research emphasis that fits with the area they will be representing. ASV membership status can be checked by contacting the ASV office (asv@asv.org).

For the Councilor of Virology Trainees: Nominated individuals MUST be an Associate or Full member of ASV (dues paid for 2020 and for 2021 at time of election in February). The nominee should hold a doctoral degree and be a postdoctoral scholar or equivalent. The name of the candidate, a NIH biosketch, a short description from the nominee of why they want to be a Councilor, and a letter of support (or nomination) from the postdoctoral mentor must be included with the nomination. Self-nominations will be accepted.

To nominate a candidate for one of these positions, please email the Nominations Committee Chair, Kristen Bernard, at kristen.bernard@wisc.edu. The subject line of the email should state "Nomination for ASV February 1, 2021 Election." Your email should list the name of the candidate, the role they are being nominated for and if possible, an indication of their previous service to ASV. Submitted names that meet the criteria will then be fully considered by the Nominations Committee.
