The Wolfgang & Patricia Joklik Distinguished Service Award
Call for Nominations
The ASV Council and the History & Archives Committee are delighted to request nominations for the Wolfgang and Patricia Joklik Distinguished Service Award. This is a prestigious award in honor of Wolfgang (Bill) Joklik, who founded ASV, for his service to ASV. This award is made possible by a financial donation from his wife, Patricia Joklik. It recognizes a current or past ASV member for outstanding long-term or significant service to our Society, our members, and to the science of virology. The award consists of a commemorative medal that will be presented by the ASV President prior to the Keynote Address of the Society’s annual meeting.
Details for eligibility
Eligible nominees include any current or past members of the Society or others who have significantly advanced Society goals, its mission, projects, and/or programs by showing exceptional leadership, initiative, and accomplishment.
Application Package Submitted by Nominator
The nominator, who is a member of ASV in good standing, should submit a nomination to the Society by providing three items:
- A letter of nomination, summarizing evidence of the nominee's distinction
- A seconding letter from any member of the Society representing a different institution from the nominator
- The nominee’s Curriculum Vitae

Nominations will be considered active for three consecutive yearly cycles. Updates are not required, but will be considered if submitted. Self-nominations will not be accepted. More than one active nomination per nominator will not be accepted.

Decisions and announcements
The ASV History & Archives Committee will review submitted nominations and make award recommendations to the ASV Executive Committee, which will approve and announce the award on behalf of ASV. This award is granted at the discretion of these committees and may not be awarded every year.
Awardees will be notified by March 1, 2026.
