Advocacy for Science and Funding

Dear Members,

As details continue to emerge regarding the proposed federal budget for FY2026, we are increasingly concerned about the potential impact of significant cuts to science and public health funding. Now more than ever, it is essential that the virology community speaks up.

We urge you to take action by contacting your representatives in Congress to express your support for sustained investment in scientific research and public health. Lawmakers need to hear directly from those who understand the critical role science plays in protecting and advancing society.

One effective way to engage is through professional societies. We encourage you to use the ASM Policy Action Center by clicking here, to send a message to Congress. The proposed reductions—up to 50% or more—could severely hinder research progress, weaken pandemic preparedness, and compromise future innovations.

Please add your voice and share this call to action with your colleagues and networks. Your advocacy matters.
