By Plane

Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL):

    • Major airlines, including Air Canada, American Airlines, Delta, and United, operate direct flights to Montréal from several cities.
    • The airport is located about 20 km from downtown Montréal.
    • From the airport, you can take a taxi, Uber, or public transportation (bus 747 express) to reach the city center.

By Train

VIA Rail Canada:

    • Offers regular train service to Montréal from various cities across Canada, including Toronto, Ottawa, and Quebec City.
    • Amtrak Adirondack Line: Connects New York City and Montréal. The journey takes about 10-12 hours.
    • Montréal's train station is Gare Centrale (Central Station), located downtown.

By Bus

Greyhound and FlixBus:

    • Operate bus services to Montréal from cities in the U.S. and other parts of Canada.
    • Travel times vary depending on the departure point. For instance, from New York City, it’s about an 8-hour bus ride.

Orléans Express:

    • Provides frequent bus service between Québec City, Montréal, and other nearby cities.
    • Buses arrive at Gare d'autocars de Montréal (Montréal Bus Terminal), located near the Berri-UQAM metro station downtown.

Ride-Sharing

Rental Cars

    • Rental car counters are located on the ground floor of the airport parking garage, accessible from the arrivals level.

Public Transportation

STM (Société de transport de Montréal): Montréal has an extensive and efficient public transportation system that includes:

    • Metro: Four metro lines (Green, Orange, Yellow, and Blue) serve different parts of the city. It’s one of the easiest ways to get around central Montréal and nearby suburbs.
    • Bus: Buses operate throughout the city, with major routes connecting to metro stations. There are also express buses from the airport to downtown (e.g., the 747 bus).
    • Fares: The same fare card (OPUS card) works for both metro and bus services. Single-use, day, and unlimited-use passes are also available.

Bicycles

BIXI Bikes: Montréal’s popular bike-sharing system.

    • Available at various stations throughout the city.
    • You can rent a bike for a single ride, by the hour, or through a membership. BIXI has both standard and electric bikes.
  • Bike Lanes: Montréal is bike-friendly, with dedicated bike lanes and paths, especially along major routes like the Lachine Canal and through downtown.

Walking

Downtown and Old Montréal: These areas are very walkable, making it easy to explore on foot.
