The American Society for Virology was founded in 1981 to provide a forum for investigators of human, animal, insect, plant, fungal, and bacterial viruses, whether the research involves clinical, ecological, biological, or biochemical approaches. The stated aim of the Society is to promote the exchange of information and stimulate discussion and collaboration among scientists active in all aspects of virology. These goals are achieved by means of meetings organized or sponsored by the Society, obtaining for the members reduced subscription rates for virological journals, soliciting travel grants to attend national and international meetings and representation on national and international councils.

ACCOMMODATIONS
University residence hall accommodations will be available for meeting registrants. In addition, a limited number of rooms have been set aside at local hotels. Be sure to identify yourself as a participant in the ASV conference and make your hotel reservations early, as rooms will book quickly during this time of year in State College. For more lodging information, visit www.asv2013.com.

TRAVEL VISAS: Application Process and Forms – IMPORTANT
Scientists from all parts of the world are invited to attend the annual meeting of the American Society for Virology. All international visitors entering the United States are generally required to present a valid visa or passport issued by a U.S. Consular Official. If you are required to obtain a visa, you must begin by completing an Electronic Visa Application form (Form Ds-156) from the U.S. State Department. The website to begin the electronic application process is: evisaforms.state.gov/. Please be sure to allow ample time for the processing of your visa application which can take 3 to 4 MONTHS in some countries. Additional information is
available on The National Academies website at: sites.nationalacademies.org/pga/biso/visas/index.htm.

STATE COLLEGE, PENNSYLVANIA
While you're attending the conference, take time to enjoy the many attractions and recreational opportunities that central Pennsylvania offers.
The State College area provides all the benefits of a university town – great food, a lively night life, museums, and world-class entertainment at the Bryce Jordan Center and Eisenhower Auditorium. Outdoor recreation areas for boating, fishing, hiking, and rock climbing are only minutes away.
If you extend your visit to the area and spend time enjoying central Pennsylvania's beautiful wilderness areas, rental cabins are available just a short drive from State College. The region also offers a large number of other accommodations, including historic bed and breakfast inns in State College and nearby Bellefonte or Boalsburg.
Central Pennsylvania has a rich agricultural history and the valleys around Penn State are dotted with working farms, some of which provide produce and artisan breads and cheese for the many local farmers' markets. Many restaurants in the area now feature regionally grown items on their menus. The University is located in the northwest corner of Pennsylvania wine country and there are several wineries within easy driving distance of State College. During your stay, be sure to visit the largest university creamery in the country – Berkey Creamery on the University Park Campus – where you can savor freshly made ice cream and other delicious dairy products.
A variety of community festivals and celebrations take place throughout the year in central Pennsylvania including First Night State College, the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, and the Central PA 4th Fest (featuring one of the world's ten best fireworks displays).
